Obituary of Barbara M. Sherlock

Barbara M. Sherlock, 71, of Brookside Avenue, Amsterdam, NY died Saturday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital following a short illness. Born February 23, 1934 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of the late Paul & Viola Lucht Gardner. She lived most of her life in Amsterdam and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1952. Barbara was a homemaker and later worked for the Amsterdam Printing Co. in Amsterdam. She was last employed as a Media Aide at the Barkley School for the Greater Amsterdam School District for 20 years until retiring in July 1, 2005. She was a lifetime member of the Amsterdam PTA, a member of the Mohawk Heritage Society, The Century Club and the Amsterdam United Methodist Church where she at one time served as a Sunday School Teacher. Years ago, she was a Cub Scout Leader at the Perth School. Barbara loved gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren who were very important to her. On January 31, 1953 she married Robert C. Sherlock. Besides her husband she is survived by; four sons, Richard C. Sherlock and his wife Tracy of Amsterdam, Robert P. Sherlock and his wife Christine of Amsterdam, Brad W. Sherlock and his companion Chrystne Naylor of Albany, and Scott D. Sherlock and his wife Mary Alice of Amsterdam; five grandchildren Sara, Robbie, Meaghan, Kyle and Kade; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by a sister; Karen Gardner and a brother Richard Gardner. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Brian Gould officiating. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The Family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. A Legacy Candle ceremony will be conducted Monday evening at 6:45 pm at the funeral home. Flowers are acceptable however those desiring may make memorial contributions in Barbara?s memory to the Amsterdam United Methodist Church, 347 Golf Course Road, Amsterdam, New York 12010.
