Obituary of Chris Polezoes
Dr. Chris Polezoes, 90, of Stewart Street, Amsterdam and Clearwater Florida, passed away Saturday morning at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, his winter residence.
His beloved wife of fifty-three years, Blanche Coclanis Polezoes, predeceased him by six months, passing away in Florida in July of this year.
Dr. Polezoes was born in Elkhart, Indiana, on Sept. 28, 1915, the son of Peter and Betsy Kansas Polezoes. In 1920, his family returned to Greece where his father was the president of the Bank of Sparta. Chris was educated in Athens, Greece where he completed his medical degree before returning to the United States after World War II, and continued his education at the University of Pennsylvania, becoming a certified radiologist. He practiced at the Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio until he moved to Amsterdam, and became Chief of Radiology at St. Mary?s Hospital, a position he held for twenty-five years. He retired in 1977.
Dr. Polezoes and Blanche loved horse racing, and owned several horses that raced at the Saratoga Harness Track. He and Blanche divided their retirement years between homes in Amsterdam and Clearwater and frequently visited Saratoga Springs, New York, a city they both loved.
Dr. Polezoes is survived locally by his niece, Betsy D?Annibale and her husband John Carl D?Annibale of Clifton Park, New York; a grand nephew, John Christopher D?Annibale of Clifton Park; a niece, Ellen Wallack and her husband David Wallack of Baltimore, Maryland; a grand niece, Sarah Wallack also of Baltimore; and a sister in law, Lula Polezoes of Clifton Park.
Also, in Greece, he is survived by brothers Thomas Polezoes and his wife Fula and Steve Polezoes and his wife Kula all of Sparta and six nieces and nephews including Bessy and Peter Polezoes in Greece.
His brother Paul Polezoes of Saratoga predeceased him in 1980, as well as sisters, Mary and Constantina of Athens.
A service will take place on Thursday at 11:00am at St. George?s Antiochian Orthodox Church, 55 Main Street, So. Glens Falls, Fr. Elias Nasr, officiating. Interment will take place in Glens Falls Cemetery, next to his beloved Blanche.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 5-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Those who wish to remember Dr. Chris may make a contribution in his memory to St. Mary?s Hospital Foundation or the American Heart Assoc., both in care of the funeral home.
