Obituary of James P. Eaton
James P. Eaton, 87, of Hammondtown Road, passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Mary?s Hospital. He had been a resident of Montgomery Meadows Nursing Facility.
Born in Broadalbin, New York on April 15, 1918, the son of William and Mae Dorman Eaton, he attended schools there, moving to Amsterdam in 1961.
He was employed by the American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady for a time, and later for fourteen years by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady until he retired in 1970.
During World War II, Jim proudly served his country in the US Army as a heavy machine gunner. He saw combat action in Ardennes, Northern France and central Europe, and the Rhineland. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 137 of Broadalbin, and the DAV Chapter 122 of Dade City, Florida.
On Sept. 23, 1961 he was united in marriage to the former Bernice Menge.
She predeceased him on March 5th of this year.
His loving family includes his sons, William Eaton of Coxsackie and Brian Eaton of Albany; his step daughter, Harol Marie and her husband Richard Gutowski of Amsterdam; grandsons, James Erin Eaton of Ravena and Richard Tracy Gutowski of Amsterdam; a great granddaughter, Megan Eaton; a sister, Jean Connor of Ballston Spa and nieces and nephews.
A service will take place on Wednesday evening at 6:45 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue with the Rev. John Califano, officiating. The interment will take place in the spring in Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4pm until the time of the service. Contributions may be made to the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
