Obituary of Doris S. Lockrow
Mrs. Doris Smith Lockrow, age 86, a former Broadalbin resident, died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital Amsterdam, NY. She had been a resident of Pine View Commons Adult Home in Johnstown for a 1-1/2 years.
She was born March 2, 1919 in the town of Perth, the daughter of the late Earl and Flora Ahnert Smith. A 1936 graduate of Broadalbin High School, she also graduated from the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She was employed as a Registered Nurse by the late Dr. Richard Kearns in Broadalbin for 25 years until 1974, and later worked at the Fulton County Infirmary, Gloversville.
Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, where she was an Elder and Deacon, the Broadalbin Order of The Eastern Star #487 where she was Past Matron, the Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing Alumnai Association, and CSEA Local 925 Fulton-Montgomery Counties.
Mrs. Lockrow was widowed three times. She was married December 14, 1940 to William Close who died August 21, 1945, she married Harold Simmons October 4, 1951, he died February 5, 1991, she was then married on September 16, 1995 to Edward W. Lockrow who died September 26, 2003.
She is survived by two children, Carol Sherman of Midlothian, VA and Robert Close Cathie of Clifton Park; a brother, Harold ?Codge? Smith of Ocala, FL; five grandchildren, Karen Beth Mitchell, Janis McDonnell, Kathryn Corrie, Caryn Close and Robert Close; six great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. She was predeceased by her brother Donald Smith and her grandson David Sherman.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St; Broadalbin, where an Order of the Eastern Star ritual will take place at 4:30 pm Wednesday. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, Broadalbin, with the Rev. Linda Martin officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 54 W. Main St; Broadalbin, NY 12025.
