Obituary of Madeline R. Persico
Mrs. Madeline R. Buanno Persico, age 95, of Gloversville, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, February 14, 2006 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, NY.
She was born August 6, 1910 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Dominic and Pasquelina Covelli Buanno, and attended Gloversville schools. She and her husband, Louis, owned and operated Persico Glove Company in Gloversville. They also established several glove making facilities for the Grando Corporation in the 1960?s and 1970?s in Puerto Rico. Madleine also operated the foremr Persico?s Smart Fashions, and Madeline?s Teen Center.
Mrs. Persico was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Women´s Society. She was past president of both the former Fulton County Mental Health Association and the Fulton County Branch of the American Heart Association.
Madeline was married on August 21, 1931 to Louis G. Persico who died December 30, 1983.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Lettis of Homosassa, FL; Linda M. Johnson of Danbury, CT; and Patricia Oberg of Marietta, GA; three sisters, Emma DelSavio, Mary Rossi and Marguerite Pangalozzi, all of Gloversville; a brother, Anthony ?Chart? Buanno of Gloversville; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Buanno; and by five brothers, Bill Buanno, Patrick Buanno, Commie Buanno, Michael Buanno and Frank Buanno.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held 9:15 am Saturday, followed at 10:00 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
