Obituary of Sylvanus E. Frohock

Mr. Sylvanus E. ?Doc? Frohock, 90, formerly of Danbury, Connecticut, died February 20, 2006 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born September 5, 1915 in Rockland, Maine he was the son of the late Dr. Wilbur and Sarah Merrill Frohock. Doc was raised in Rockland, Maine and attended Wheaton College majoring in business and graduating in 1933. He first was employed as a Vice President of Sales for Kraft Foods. He then went on to work in advertising for various companies. In 1963 he became a consultant for Haldane Inc. in New York City until his retirement in 1980. Doc also worked for a Stop & Shop as a consultant where he took part in the creation of frozen dairy trucking transportation. While working as a marketing executive, Mr. Frohock was also instrumental in the conception of the trademark of Cracker Barrel Cheese based on an actual general store where he had grown up. Mr. Frohock had also enlisted in the United States Navy serving as an ensign and eventually a Second Lieutenant in WWII in both the Atlantic and the Pacific theatres including D Day off the coast of Normandy being honorably discharged Nov 2, 1945. On April 16, 1955 he was united in marriage to Ernestine Holmes after a friendship of 26 years. That union lasted fifty years until her passing on October 1st of 2005. Doc was also predeceased by a brother, Horatio "Brick" Frohock of Cambridge, Massachusetts. His loving family includes one daughter Betty Frohock, of Sprakers, New York; two grandchildren, Jessica and Nathan Osgood also of Sprakers and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on March 2nd, 2006 at 11a.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. Gail Adamczek officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 10 a.m. until prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
