Obituary of Freda L. Austin

Mrs. Freda L. Brooker Austin, age 75, of State Highway 30, Vail Mills, Amsterdam died Monday, February 27, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY. She was born September 28, 1930 in Richmaondville, NY, the daughter of the late Edmond and Angela Radiz Brooker. She worked at two former family owned and operated businesses in Vail Mills, Austin?s ?Flying A? Service Station and Austin Enterprises. Freda also worked at Coleco Industries in Mayfield for many years. More recently she was employed at FasTrac in Vail Mills, and at SLM Transportation. Freda worked at McDonald's in Amesterdam for several years until her illness several days ago. Mrs. Austin was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Broadalbin. She was a devout reader of books, and was an avid BINGO player. She was married on December 4, 1948 to Marvin E. Austin who survives. Also surviving are seven children, Carney E. Austin of Bellingham, MA; Amber M. Marcais of Vail Mils, Sherry A. Weiderman of Broadalbin, Timothy A. Austin of Mayfield, Susan M. Mattas of Amsterdam, Todd L. Austin of Vail Mills and Kim L. Johnson of Broadalbin; a brother, Louis Brooker of East Worcester; a sister, Betty Schulte of Oneonta; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Thursday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St; Broadalbin, where a prayer service will be held at 10:00 am Friday. Interment will take place in the spring at St. Basil's Ukrainian Cemetery, Broadalbin.
