Obituary of Jennie H. Tanner
Mrs. Jennie H. Wilson Tanner, age 80, of Gloversville, entered into eternal rest with her family at her side on Friday, March 3, 2006 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
She was born December 16, 1925 in Edinburg, NY, the daughter of the late Floyd and Minnie Rosa Wilson. Jennie was employed at Northville Central School, Keveto Pocketbook Company in Gloversville, and was a teacher?s aide at Mayfield School. Jennie and her husband owned and operated Tanner?s Variety Center from their home for 20 years in the 1950?s and 1960?s. She was a well-known interior decorator for many years until 1956, and loved gardening and camping. She was a member of Adirondack Baptist Church, and the Johnstown 50 plus Senior Citizens.
Jennie was married on July 19, 1953 to Erskine A. Tanner who died July 2, 1985. She is survived by five daughters, Joyce Abare of Stratford, Beatrice Erb of Gloversville, Darlene Basore of Austin, TX; Bonnie Barkevich of Rome, and Brigitte Danise of Amsterdam; a brother, Douglas Wilson of Mayfield; six sisters, twins Rita VanAvery and Ruth Schrader, Pearl Shannon, Gladys Wilson and Bernice Clark, all of Gloversville, and Martha Crowter of Mayfield; 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She preceded in death by her children Diana Hogan and Abraham Tanner, and her brothers Cola Wilson, George Wilson and Glenn Wilson.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Wednesday at the Adirondack Baptist Church, 1431 State Highway 29, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm Wednesday. Interment will take place in the spring at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. Arrangements are by Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
