Obituary of Ann Elizabeth Mahon
Ann Elizabeth Mahon, 93, of Lower Prospect Street, Fonda, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday morning with her loving family by her side.
Born in Bayonne, New Jersey on November 26, 1912 she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget Boyle McNulty. She grew up in Bayonne and attended St. Andrew?s School and was a 1931 graduate of Holy Name Academy. In 1956 she moved to Montgomery County.
In 1959 Ann purchased the Dawncrest Adult Home in Fultonville, and in 1967 she established Patricia Ann?s Adult Home in Fonda, named after her beloved daughter.
She continued caring for the elderly until her retirement in 1994.
Ann was a member of the Glen-Mohawk Seniors and the Johnstown Moose Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters and the Empire State Association of Adult Homes.
After raising her children, Ann began traveling the world. She enjoyed many trips to Ireland, as well as Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii and other exotic destinations. Ann was a caring person who devoted her life to her children and caring for the elderly.
In 1939, she married Thomas M. Mahon; he died in 1994. Ann was also predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Ann Mahon; two sisters, Agnes Walsh and Marie Newhard; and one granddaughter, Bridget Ann Derby.
Her loving family includes: three daughters, Theresa Vacek and her husband Henry of Johnstown, Bonnie Van Wie and her husband Kenneth of Johnstown and Ann Marie Mahon of Fonda; two sons, Thomas Mahon of New York City and John Mahon and his wife Ann of Fonda; one sister, Evelyn McCarthy of Brielle, New Jersey; eight grandchildren, Donald, Matthew, Rebecca, Jason, Kathryn, Sean, Elizabeth and Bradford; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Cecilia?s Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Patrick Gallagher OFM Conv. as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 until 7 Thursday evening at the funeral home, where a Legacy Candle Ceremony will be conducted at 7PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or to St. Cecilia?s Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068.
