Obituary of Joseph D. Campbell

Joseph D. Campbell, 60, of Main Street, Ft. Hunter, passed away Saturday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital with family at his side after a long illness. Born in Graham, Kentucky on March 28, 1945, the son of the late William Thomas and Pauline Rose Campbell, he was a graduate of South Hopkins High School. He then entered the US Navy in September of 1965, and served in Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Service and Campaign medals. It was there that he studied the electrical trade and began his lifelong career in that field. Following his move to the Amsterdam area thirty five years ago, he began working for the Local Union 166, now known as Local 236. He retired in May of 2003 due to ill health. In his spare time, Joe loved to race stock cars and he restored many older model cars. He also spent time with his son and coached Little League teams for Fonda and Fultonville. An avid Kentucky Wildcats fan, he was also a life member of the Ft. Hunter Volunteer Fire Department. On November 18, 1966 he was united in marriage to the former Linda M. Anderson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jeremy Scott Campbell of Ft. Hunter; brothers, Donald Campbell of Ft. Worth, Texas and Walter Campbell and Teddy Campbell both of Madisonville, Kentucky; sisters, Ilene Whitehouse of Cecilia, Kentucky, Anna Whitfield Floyd of Madisonville, Carol Davis Jerry of Clearwater, Florida, Nelda Cox of Madisonville, Margaret Jordon John of Altamont Springs, Florida, and Tricia Campbell of Memphis, Tennessee; many nieces and nephews and friends survive. A service to celebrate his life will take place Thursday at 11:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville with the Rev. Christopher DeGraaf officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, or the American Lung Association, both in care of the funeral home office, 12072. The family would like to thank the entire fourth floor staff at St. Mary?s Hospital for their wonderful care of Joe.
