Obituary of Jack A. Summerfield

Sprakers, NY-Jack A. Summerfield "Pop" died Thursday November 17, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Pop was born Feb. 4, 1931, in Gloversville, the son of Jack Sommerfield and Ethel Mae Hayes. He attended Canajoharie Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1949 with a honorable discharge with the reserves in 1956. He was a life member of the Charleston Four Corners Fire Dept., Canajoharie Moose 853 and the Charleston Historic Society. He was employed by Walters Motors, General Electric and retired from the Town of Charleston. Pop loved to play cards, mow the lawn, check out every slot machine within a three hour drive but most importantly he loved to watch Navy White race and win. Jack is survived by his wife Evelyn Gordon Summerfield of 65 years, whom he married May 4,1951, two daughters, Cathy (Roscoe) Robinson of Central Bridge, Vicky Voorhees (Tom Little) of Edinburgh, one son Jack (Sue) Summerfield of Glen and a daughter-in- law Mary Summerfield of Nevada; a special granddaughter, Tina Summerfield, grandsons Mark (Francis) Robinson, Tony(Candy) Voorhees, Michael (Missy) Summerfield, Steven Summerfield and Ryan Summerfield; greatgrandchildren, Anthony, who always has plan B for pop, his Hannah Banana, Lily,Sam, Brendon, Connor (jockey), Izzy, Felix, Genesis and Little Markie and his beloved brother Richard Summerfield, whom he deeply loved. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Steven William Summerfield. A memorial service will take place Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Christian Church of Charleston Four Corners at 1 o'clock. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charleston Fire Dept.or the Christian Church of Charleston Four Corners. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lenz and Betz Funeral Home 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie (518-992-7778).
