Obituary of Burdette Reese
Burdette ?Bert? L. Reese, 81, of County Highway 155, passed away on Sunday at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born on the family farm October 9, 1924 in Hagaman, New York, he was the son of John A. and Hazel V. Beyer Reese. He attended Amsterdam schools.
Bert was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
He was first employed by Banta Brothers in Hagaman and later owned and operated the Clizbe Avenue Market in Amsterdam for five years. Bert was employed as a meat cutter for Saveway and retired in 1993 from Price Chopper.
He became a member of the Sacandaga Boat club in 1958. Bert was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW of Broadalbin, Moose Lodge in Johnstown # 1185, Hagaman United Methodist Church and founding member of the Hagaman Youth Commission.
He was an avid Yankee baseball fan.
Bert was married on December 13, 1946 to the former Edna A. Hanna.
In addition to his wife survivors include two sons, Richard C. Reese and his companion Rose James of Northville, New York and Robert W. Reese and his wife Kathy of Fish House, New York; a sister, Charolette Coons of Fonda, New York; six grandchildren, Pamela J. Reese Finch, Marcia A. Matis, Robert R. Reese, Christopher S. Vick, Christopher M. Reese and Chad M. Vick; fifteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bert was predeceased by a brother, Arnold Reese.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park
Avenue, Amsterdam with Bert?s daughter-in-law Kathy Reese officiating. The burial of his cremated remains will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam. There will be no calling hours.
