Obituary of Dorothy V. Dostie

Dorothy V. Dostie, 91, formerly of Putnam Street, passed away Thursday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, with her daughter and granddaughter at her side. Born in Hoffmans, New York on January 30, 1915, the daughter of Delbert and Jennie Palmateer Ryder, she lived in this area her entire life. A homemaker, she also worked for a time as a baker at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. Dorothy was a devoted member of the First Reformed Church and the Port Jackson Seniors. Her happiest times were spent with her family, and she loved to cook and bake for them. On July 24, 1936, she was united in marriage to Walter H. Dostie. He predeceased her on July 10, 1965. Also, her daughter, Cora Mae Doak predeceased her. Her loving family includes her daughter, Patricia Ann and her husband Reinhard Steiger of Amsterdam; her son, Walter M. and his wife Laurie Dostie of Amsterdam, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Services are Monday at 1:00 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue with the Rev. Robert W. Smith officiating. Interment is in Fairview Cemetery. A calling hour will begin at 12 noon, prior to the service. Contributions may be made to the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility or to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, both in care of the funeral home office.
