Obituary of Alberta H. Purdell
Mrs. Alberta H. Purdell, 87 years old, of Post Avenue, Tribes Hill, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home where she had been a patient for several days. She was born April 20, 1918 in Amsterdam, NY, a daughter of Harry Fonda and Eva Russell Patrick Hall. Mrs. Purdell moved to Amsterdam where she graduated from Amsterdam High School. She then moved to Ft. Hunter and in 1946 moved to Tribes Hill where she had since resided. Mrs. Purdell was employed as a medical transporter for Montgomery Co. Social Services for many years. She was a member of the Tribes Hill United Presbyterian Church and the Westminister Guild of the church and had served on the Session for many years. Her pies were appreciated at many church events and she was especially noted for her participation in the annual Fall ham supper. Alberta and her husband Roy, along with several other couples, helped to found Liberty Enterprises. Mrs. Purdell served as a Girl Scout leader for 25 years, was a member of the Cerebral Palsy Association, active with the P.T.A., a member of the Iroquois Senior Citizens and an avid bird watcher.
She married Joseph L. Purdell on June 10, 1942. He died January 11, 1996. Mrs. Purdell is survived by 2 daughters; Janet P. Hayes and her husband David W., of Tribes Hill and Patricia Anne Purdell also of Tribes Hill; her grandson David Andrew Hayes and his wife Lara of Monroe, NY, and 2 grand daughters Rachel and Rebecca Hayes. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 3:00pm Wednesday at Tribes Hill United Presbyterian Church, Mohawk Drive in Tribes Hill, with The Rev. Barbara Floryshak officiating. A calling hour will precede the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will take place at a later date.
