Obituary of Hyman Gordon
Mr. Hyman Gordon, 94 years old of 8140 S.W. 24th Street, N. Lauderdale, Florida, died Wednesday May 3, 2006, at the Hospice Unit of Florida Medical Center, Lauderdale Lakes. Mr. Gordon was born March 30, 1912 in Rochester, NY, a son of Alec and Rachel Price Gordon. He was employed by the Schine Theater Chain moving to Amsterdam, NY in 1941 to manage the theaters there. Mr. Gordon started a sign business in Amsterdam and was a professional sign painter. In 1946 he and his wife opened the Toy Tent Store in Amsterdam, which they operated until the early 1960?s. He then worked as the property manager for the City of Amsterdam Urban Renewal Agency retiring in the late 1970?s. Mr. Gordon has resided in the Lauderdale area since 1982. He was a member of Congregation Sons of Israel Synagogue of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Lodge # 84 F. &A.M. and the Oriental Temple and its band. Mr. Gordon married the former Vera Stone who died in 1981. He is survived by his son David Gordon and his wife Clair of Jensen Beach, Florida and Lake George, NY; his brother Irving Gordon of Rochester, NY; 2 grandchildren Sharon Gordon and Deborah Underhill and her husband John; 2 great grandchildren Ryan and Jacob Underhill; and his dear friend of many years Hilda Diamond. Mr. Gordon is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Tuesday at Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with The Rabbi Martin Gordon officiating. Burial is in Congregation Sons of Israel Cemetery, Cranesville. There will be no visitation.
