Obituary of Richard C. Ruback

Mr. Richard C. Ruback, 80, of State Highway 5S, passed away Wednesday at St. Peter?s Hospital in Albany. Born on November 29, 1925 in Amsterdam, he was the son of the late Henry and Jessie Kruger Ruback. He was a lifelong area resident and was a 1943 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Dick joined the United States Army Air Corps in January 1944. He became part of the 20th Air Force 315th Bomb Wing and participated in the last mission in August 1945, and then was honorably discharged. He attended Springfield College, graduating in 1950. For 36 years he taught health and physical education in the Greater Amsterdam School District. He also coached JV basketball for 35 years. For 12 years he was director of the Galway Summer Program. In 1986, Dick retired from teaching and continued to be active. He served as assistant treasurer at the Woestina Reformed Church and as a member of the Woestina Cemetery Committee, for many years. Dick enjoyed being with his family, and bumping into ex-students and hearing about them. He will be sadly missed. He was predeceased by one brother, Henry Ruback. His loving family includes his wife, the former Beatrice P. Pinkham, whom he married 49 years ago, on August 18, 1956; one daughter, Ruth Ruback, and her husband Tom Musick of Chicago, Illinois; one son, David C. Ruback and his wife Marianne Dailey- Ruback of Pattersonville, New York; two grandchildren, Jason and Stephen and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2pm at the Woestina Reformed Church, Route 5S, Rotterdam Junction with the Rev. Kent McHeard officiating. Burial will take place at Woestina Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dick?s name may be made to the Woestina Reformed Church, or to the C.R.O.P. Walk.
