Obituary of Gerald Lee Wood

Mr. Gerald Lee Wood, 69, of Railroad St., Ft. Hunter, NY passed away Sunday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Duanesburg, N.Y. on August 3, 1936 a son of Arthur and Ethel Kendle Wood. Mr. Wood was a lifelong area resident and attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He later went into the U.S. Army and served in combat during the Korean War. He was employed as a Truck Driver for over 20 years at the former Ashphalt Stone Products Company now Callahan Company in Schenectady, NY. Mr. Wood also worked as a carpenter and worked in Amsterdam at UCM millworks. He started his own business the former Lee-Mar Home Improvement Company and worked at his company for over 15 years and retired in 1999. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a loving and caring father. He enjoyed playing the guitar and occasionally played the spoons and entertained his family and friends. He also enjoyed working on cars and he was a man who always gave good advice. Gardening and driving his Chevy truck were also part of his favorite pastimes. He married Linda June Newkirk Wood on June 28, 1969. In addition to his beloved wife survivors include one son, Kevin G. Wood and his wife Melissa of the Town of Florida, New York; one daughter, Dawn M. Merrill and her husband John of Ft. Hunter, New York; one step-brother, Claude Farone of Amsterdam; one sister, Dolores ?Billie Dee? K. Phelps of the Town of Florida, New York. His mother-in-law, Betty Newkirk and brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at 11:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday evening May 10, 2006 from 4-7P.M. at the funeral home.
