Obituary of Philip Guadagno
Philip Guadagno, 79, of Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 27, 1937 in Brooklyn, he was a son of the late Anthony and Anna Bochichio Guadagno. He was a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville Central School and a proud Veteran of the United States Army National Guard, 10th Mountain Division.
Philip worked for 28 years as a Machine Repair Man on steam turbines at General Electric, following retirement you could often see him greeting you at the Amsterdam Wal-Mart. He was a loyal order of the Moose, Chapter 1185 in Johnstown, volunteering many times with his wife for the American Red Cross blood bank. Philip was a member of the Perth Youth Commission for many years, worked for the election board at the Perth Town Hall, was a treasurer for the Broadalbin Seniors and was a past fireman for the Amsterdam Fire Dept. Philip was an active member of St. Stanislaus Church for many years, serving as a Eucharist Minister for the past 10 years. Most importantly, Philip was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend; he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving family, wife, Elizabeth Ludwin Guadagno; whom he wed on November 26, 1966; son, Philip Guadagno, Jr. (Liz) of Orlando, FL; daughters, Mary Knapik (Rich) of Amsterdam, Rosann Fagant (Tim) of Amsterdam and Francine Hemstreet (Rick) of Johnstown; brothers, Anthony Guadagno, Jr. of Johnstown, Carmine Guadagno (Carolyn) of Fonda, John Guadagno (Gloria) of San Diego, CA and Michael Guadagno (Elinor); adored grandchildren, Nicholas Aesch, Madison and Isabella Fagant, Dezerie Hinkel, Ricky Hemstreet, Morgan and Addyson Guadagno; beloved great grandchildren, Lily Aesch and Aurora Lynn Davis. Philip was predeceased by his sister, Hope Ingles; brother, Joseph Guadagno and sister-in-law, Wendy Guadagno.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home. St. Stanislaus' Holy Name Society will be conducting a prayer service at 6:15 P.M. A prayer service for Philip will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 8:00 A.M. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Cornell St. Amsterdam with Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam.
