Obituary of Harry A. Green
Mr. Harry A. Green, Jr., 81 of Gloversville, died Tuesday at his residence.
Mr. Green was born in Gloversville on October 26, 1924, son of the late Harry A. and Hazel Templeton Green, Sr.
He was educated in Gloversville schools and a 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served in the South Pacific before being honorable discharged in 1945. Early in his career, Mr. Green worked as a glove maker for various area companies. He subsequently became employed by the Gold Brothers firm in Canada where he resided for many years. Harry was later transferred to Hong Kong and the Philippines where he was responsible for organizing glove-manufacturing operations. In 1973 he became employed by the Lane Construction Co. at the Fultonville Shop, retiring there in 1988.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. For many years he volunteered and donated to local charities and events. He was very devoted to his involvement with the Arbor Day program and had donated hundreds of trees to area schools. Harry was a great cook and enjoyed sharing his many food experiences from around the world. His memberships include: Teamsters local 294, former Zoning Board of Appeals and the Assessment Review Board for the Town of Johnstown.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Thorne Green of Gloversville whom he married April 9, 1949; his children, Lee Thomas Green and his wife Patricia of Mayfield, Lawrence Nelson Green and his wife Janice of Pine Lake, Bruce Alan Green and his wife Tambra of Gloversville and Cheryl Miller and her husband Joe of Fairbanks, Alaska. He is also survived by a sister, Doris Shearer of Oneonta, fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Jack Bruce Green. Funeral services will be conducted 11 am Thursday from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street with Reverend R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 ? 11 am prior to the service. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, or to a charity of choice.
