Obituary of Robert Herdman
Mr. Robert Herdman, 87 of Mayfield, died Wednesday at his home. He was born January 10, 1921 in Gloversville, son of the late Leon and Eunice Knapp Herdman. Mr. Herdman was educated in Gloversville schools and employed in the leather business most of his life. He retired in 1983 from Wood & Hyde Co. where he was a toggler.
Earlier in his life Mr. Herdman enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycle riding. He also was an avid New York Mets and Giants fan, as well as NASCAR and stock car racing. As a hobby, he had been a wood worker for many years. Mr. Herdman served in the Army during WWII. He was a member of the Mayfield Servicemen's Club, the Mayfield Volunteer Fire Department, which he was a life member of, and the Mayfield Police Department.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Davison Herdman of Mayfield, whom he married June 21, 1941. He is also survived by a daughter, Valerie Bart Warner of Mayfield; a son, Michael Sandi Herdman of Northville; grandchildren: Jeffrey Paulette Warner and Roxanne Herdman; great grandchildren: Ian, Jaret, Darren and Isabella and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Herdman was pre-deceased by his twin brother, Richard Herdman.
A funeral service was conducted at 10 am on Saturday, April 5 from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville with Reverend Bonnie Orth officiating. The family received friends on Friday, April 4 from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 10 at Mayfield Cemetery with Reverend Bonnie Orth officiating and the Mayfield Servicemen's Club.
