Obituary of Peter S. Bielecki

Peter S. Bielecki 86, of Grand Street, passed away Wednesday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. Born in Amsterdam on May 21, 1922, he was the last surviving child of the late John and Mary Dyna Bielecki. Educated locally, he lived here his entire life. During World War II he enlisted in the US Navy and received the Asiatic- Pacific medal with six stars. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a fireman third class. With the onset of the Korean War, Peter reenlisted serving another term and again discharged in 1951. He was employed for a time at the Naval Supply Depot in Scotia and later for the Watervliet Arsenal, retiring twenty years ago. An avid bowler, he was a member of several local leagues. Peter was a communicant of the Church Of St. John The Baptist. He was a former member of the PNL and St. John's Club. On January 8, 1949 he was united in marriage to the former Helen Bluvas. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his son, Michael P. Bielecki of Amsterdam and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers John and Steve Bielecki; sisters, Clara Kormanek and Irene Sr. Fedelia C.R. Bielecki; and his daughter in law Geraldine Bielecki. Services are Tuesday at 8:45 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at the Church Of St. John The Baptist, Vanderveer Street. Fr. Stanley J. Swierzowski, celebrant. Interment will follow with full military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. Calling hours are Monday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Of Amsterdam in care of the funeral home office.
