Obituary of Bradwell Edward Mooney

Bradwell "Brad" E. Mooney, 64, of Jackson Street, passed away Thursday afternoon at the St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness. Born September 20, 1943, in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Harry and Ida Mae Steadwell Mooney. He was a life long resident of Amsterdam and was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Brad served in the National Guard in Amsterdam for a many years. He was employed as a machinist for General Electric Company in Schenectady for a number of years until retiring due to ill health. Brad dedicated most of his life to the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years starting with St. Mary's Church Troop 40, in Amsterdam and was most recently with Sacred Heart Church Troop 15 in Gloversville. Scouting was his passion and he was affiliated with many of the boy scout troops throughout the capital district. Brad at one time was the lodge advisor of the THAY-EN-DA-NE-GEA Order of the Arrow.He was very active as advisement chairman for the Sir William Johnson District. He was associate section advisor of N. E. 2D Boy Scouts of America. He was co-chairman and coordinator of the Auriesville Retreat for the Boy Scouts of America and was also in charge of the National Jamboree for the Sir William Johnson District. Brad served on the Board of Eagle Scouts and was involved with the management of many of the boy scout camp grounds. He was of the Roman Catholic faith. Brad was predeceased by his step father Harold Pierce. Survivors include one aunt, Jean Stella of Albany, NY; four cousins, Elmer Rossi of Amsterdam, Marcia McGuigan of Pensecola, FL, Deborah Joralemon of Saratoga Springs, NY and John "Jack" Rossi of Orlando, Fl; several other cousins survive and his beloved canine pal, Chelsea. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at 11 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, NY. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Brad's memory to Boy Scouts of America, 253 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12205.
