Obituary of John L. Jaracz
John L. Jaracz, 77, of Regina Lane, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Amsterdam on Oct. 11, 1930, he was the last surviving child of Jan and Lucille Andrejewzski Jaracz. He was a 1948 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and later the Albany Business College.
John was employed as an accountant for Mohasco in Amsterdam until he retired. During the Korean War, he proudly served as a corporal with the US Army, stationed in Korea. He was an active member of the VFW Post 55, St. Stan's Seniors and the Forever Friends group. John and his wife loved to travel and he was an amateur photographer. He also could be found in his yard feeding the many birds there. He was an usher and parishioner at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
On May 15, 1955, he married his beloved Lillian L. Landry. That union lasted for nearly fifty three years until her recent passing on April 22nd of this year.
He leaves his daughters; Debra and her husband Mark Lesniewski and Lori Jaracz all of Amsterdam; a niece, Judy Eggleston and nephew Don Jacobs ; sister in law Yolanda Jaracz, brother in law George Jacobs ; as well as his "grandpups" Oscar and Rexx. In addition to his parents and wife, a sister Stella Jacobs and his brother Richard Jaracz predeceased him.
A prayer service will take place Saturday morning at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Church. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Casimir's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home where the Post 55 VFW will conduct a service at 6:15 pm. Contributions may be made in his name to Community Hospice Of Amsterdam in care of the funeral home office.
