Obituary of Ruth C. Adelman

Ruth C. Adelman, age 96, passed away on May 12th, 2017 at Pineview Commons in Johnstown, NY. Mrs. Adelman was born in Amsterdam, NY, the daughter of Samuel and Mayme Cramer. Mrs. Adelman graduated from Amsterdam High School and graduated from Cornell University in 1941 with a Bachelor's Degree majoring in psychology. Mrs. Adelman was employed by the New York State Department of Labor retiring in 1988 after 20 years of service. She was an active member of the Knesseth Israel Synagogue, the Sisterhood of the Synagogue, Hadassah, the Jewish Community Center, and a member of the Nathan Littauer Volunteer Auxiliary, and a heart fund volunteer. Mrs. Adelman loved sports and was an avid golfer and a member of Pine Brook Gold Club for many years. She was also a member of the Jewish Community Bowling League and enjoyed bowling in the league and with her family. She never missed watching a Yankee's baseball game or Knicks game and also enjoyed watching football especially on New Year's Day. Beside golfing and bowling Mrs. Adelman played tennis and was an excellent bridge player. On July 2nd, 1944 she married Morris Adelman. They were married for fifty-seven years at the time of his death in 2001. She was also predeceased by her daughter and son in-law, Diane and John Orloff; her infant daughter Barbara, and her brother Carl Cramer. She is survived by her son, Glenn R. (Linda) Adelman of Johnstown, NY, and her daughter Margaret S. (Christopher) Livingstone of New Milford, CT, and her sister Mrs. Eleanore Breier of Coral Gables, FL. Mrs. Adelman is also survived by her four grandchildren, Bryan (Laura) Adelman of Charlotte, NC, Julie (Jason) Risley of Johnstown, NY, Jennifer Livingstone of New Milford, CT, and Kelly (Steven) DeMichele of Brookfield, CT, and six great-grandchildren, Olivia, James, and Julian Adelman, and Jacob, Jaidyn, and Jamey Risley. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 15th, 2017, at 11am at the Knesseth Israel Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made in Mrs. Adelman's honor to the Knesseth Israel Synagogue, 34 E. Fulton Street, Gloversville, NY 12078, or Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversvile, NY.
