Obituary of Samuel F. Passero

Samuel F. Passero, 62, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 20, 1954 in Gloversville, he was a son of Loretta Charsky (Bill Thompson) and the late Nicholas J. Passero. Sam graduated high school in Deming, New Mexico and then went on to receive his associate's degree from Fulton Montgomery Community College. At the age of 20, Sam started working at various leather mills in many different positions; he worked for leather mills for over 20 years. Sam then went on to work for the Recorder in Amsterdam; there he was their Circulation Manager. Lastly, he worked as a quality control specialist at Perron Leather. Sam was an avid outdoorsmen who loved to hunt, fish and hike; he especially loved being outdoors with his grandkids whom he adored. Besides family, many would say that Sam was very passionate about his love for ice cream. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, family man and friend; he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia VanBuren Passero, whom he wed on April 13, 1974; son, Scott Passero (Dawn); daughter, Lisa Passero-Holden (Jon); brother, Nicholas J Passero, Jr; sisters, Peggy Frasier, Deborah Passero and Francine Passero; grandchildren, Isaac Passero, Patti Barr, Michael Barr, Jr., Andrew Barr and Haley Hickok; an expected great-granddaughter due this summer. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive. Besides his father, Sam was predeceased by his sister, Susan Passero. Calling hours for Sam will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 4pm until 7pm at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, 12078. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Ferndale Cemetery, N. Perry Street, Johnstown, 12095. A gathering will be held on Tuesday after the graveside at Sam's sister's house, Debbie, 6 Division Street, Gloversville. Memorial donations in Sam's name can be made to St. Mary's Hospital, 427 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, NY, 12010 or to NYOH, 1700 Riverfront Center, Amsterdam.
