Obituary of Joseph A. Pantalone
After 99 years of a fulfilling and exuberant life, Joseph A. Pantalone, Sr. of Gloversville, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2017 surrounded by his family at Ellis Hospital.
Born on January 17, 1918 in Gloversville, Joseph was a son of the late Nicolas and Josephine Suppa Pantalone. Joe was a lifelong resident of Gloversville, attending local school. Joe was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy.
Joe owned and operated Exxon Mobile Gas Station on S. Main Street, had his own trucking and mechanic business; as well as his own auto scrape yard for over 50 years. In 1984, Joe retired from General Electric where he worked as a mechanist. Joe was very gifted when it came to metal and wood craftsmanship, he always enjoyed being able to gift his talent to family and friends. When it came to music, Joe was your guy, he loved to play his mandolin, banjo and any type of string instrument. He will always be remembered for his love for horses, sense of humor, good cooking, he welcomed all to his home and he was known as grandpa to all.
On August 5, 1940, Joseph married his loving wife, Beatrice Fountain, it was a loving union that lasted 63 years until her passing in 2004.
Survivors include his loving family, daughters, Madeline Dushane (Tom) of Gloversville and Beatrice Miller of Saratoga Springs; son, Joe A. Pantalone, Jr. (Mary) of Gloversville; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; 1 brother in law; 1 sister in law. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Joe was predeceased by his 1 brother and 8 sisters.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held from 4pm until 8pm on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 9:30am, guests are invited at 9am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating at Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville. Burial with military honors will follow at Mayfield Cemetery, Mayfield. A celebration of Joe's life will continue following all services at 1:30pm at the Johnstown Moose, 109 S. Comrie Ave, Johnstown, 12095, all are invited.
