Obituary of Vito C. Florimo
Mr. Vito C. Florimo Jr., 86, of Academy Street, Amsterdam died peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born in Amsterdam, NY he was the son of the late Vito Florimo Sr. and Lena Battaglia Florimo.
A lifelong area resident, Vito was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1948. He then went on to proudly serve in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. When he returned to Amsterdam he trained under William Blase to learn the trade of carpentry. He also attended several courses at FMCC, Cornell and GE Blue Print Program to further his expertise in the trade. Vito worked for several local companies including the Kelly Lumber Company before going to work for General Electric where he was employed as a Journeyman Carpenter.
Vito was patriot and a hardworking gentleman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being at his summer camp at Galway Lake. A master woodworker, he enjoyed woodworking and made several pieces of furniture. Above all, he loved his family deeply and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife A. Dianne Barkley Florimo; his daughter Suzanne (Randy) Kissinger; his sister, Rosemarie Brown; cousins, Theresa Konieczka, Roberta (Rick) Hancock, Robert (Nancy) Florimo; nieces and nephews, Patricia (Thomas) Clark, Michael (Kristine) Barkley, Kevin (Irene) Barkley; and cousins, Sandra (Christopher) Blessing, David (Barbara) Smalley, Barbara Case. Extended family members include his Godson John (Cindy) Bogdan and their children, Kayla, Kelsey and Carter; Mary Bogdan; Dawn (Chris) Watson and their children Abby and Mattie; Cheryl Bogdan; Cindy Jendron and Adam Jendron; Samantha (Lucas) Eichorst and their daughter Alida.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Maria Hall at St. Mary's Healthcare for their compassion and care.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti presiding. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery with military honors. A Gathering for family and friends will take place Friday, before the funeral service beginning at 10a.m. at the funeral home.
