Obituary of Donald W. Short
Donald W. Short, 780 W. Bay Area Blvd., Webster, TX, died June 4, 2017.
Don was born in Canajoharie at 1545 State Highway 163, Canajoharie, NY, on February 8, 1925, son of Perlia and Edith Soper Short.
Mr. Short graduated from Cherry Valley Central School in 1941. He went into farming with his father. He married Anna May Joyce, January 27, 1945 and became owner of Sprout Brook Farms. Don was a salesman for Dekalb Pfizer Genetics 1968-1985.
Mr. Short served as a director of Schoharie County Co-op, a member and trustee of the Sprout Brook United Methodist Church, a director of Montgomery County Agricultural Society, a director and president of Mohawk-Minden Insurance Company, and a director of Central National Bank.
Don developed, along with his wife, Anna May, 100 acres on Clinton Road, town of Canajoharie, into a sub-division called "Short Heights" ("Robwill Drive") in memory of two sons, Robert and William.
Survivors include: two daughters, Kay (James) Monahan; Barbara (Michael) Cooper; daughter-in-law, Betty Short; eight grandchildren and spouses, and nine great-grandchildren; and one niece. Don was predeceased by his two sons, Robert ('85) and William ('83); and his sister, Doris Canfield.
A Graveside Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 1:30p.m. at the Fort Plain Cemetery. Calling hours will take place on Saturday from 11a.m to 1p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
