Obituary of Carolyn B. Putman

Mrs. Carolyn Becker Putman, 87, of State Highway 29A, Town of Mayfield died peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Born on May 22, 1930, in the family home on Maple Avenue in Mayfield, she was the daughter of the late Howard J. and C. Beatrice Olson Becker. A lifelong area resident, Carolyn was a 1947 graduate of Mayfield Central School. She went on to attend Albany Business College and was employed in the Gloversville business offices of Singer Sewing Machines and later Robison and Smith. On October 11, 1952, she was united in marriage to Earl B. Putman. That union lasted 36 years until his passing on November 3, 1988. She was also predeceased by her son Stanley M. Putman on June 14, 2009. Carolyn along with her husband Earl, owned and operated the family farm, Putman Acres. Carolyn was a 75-year active member of the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. She was also a 4-H Leader, a member of the Fulton County Farm Bureau and it's Women's Committee, member of the Mayfield Grange, served on the Board of Elections and served on the Mayfield Town Board of Assessment Review for many years. Above all, she loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her sons, Jack Putman and his wife Bonnie and Kevin Putman and his wife Elaine, all of Gloversville; daughters, Kimberly Travis and her husband Richard of Broadalbin and Keletha Keehan and her husband Matthew of Fultonville; one brother, H. Stanley Becker and his wife Inez; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Putman; five grandchildren, Clarissa Putman, Gregory Putman and his wife Rebecca, Christopher Tyler and his wife Teresa, Jennifer Keehan and Sarah Keehan; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Brandon and Maya. Extended family members include: Steve DiMarco, Laurie and Jon Close, Hilda Ernst, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bonnie Orth and the Rev. Rebecca Putman co-officiating.
