Obituary of Doris M. Karchesky

Mrs. Doris M. Stangle Karchesky, 98, of Amsterdam, passed away Friday morning June 30, 2017 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam , NY on May 17, 1919, a daughter of the late George F. and Sarah Norris Stangle. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Doris attended the St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Amsterdam and was a member of the class of 1937. She was employed as a Nurse's Aide for many years in the Physical Therapy Department at the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. Doris was a Volunteer for over 25 years at St. Mary's Hospital and also had volunteered at the Walter Elwood Museum. She enjoyed Reading and Gardening in her spare time. Doris will be forever loved and cherished by all who knew her. She was a former communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Doris married Edward Karchesky on October 17, 1942. He passed away on July 22, 1983. Survivors include her children, Cliff (Sue) Karchesky of Tribes Hill, NY, Wayne (Linda) Karchesky of Vacaville, CA, One daughter, Marybeth (David) Van Wie of Edinburg, NY. Brothers, Robert and Edward Stangle. Sister, Elizabeth Grajewski. Cherished Grandchildren, Christian and Ian Karchesky and Allison Wynn. Great grandchildren, Drew and Allise Wynn. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Doris was predeceased by brothers, George , Clifford and Richard Stangle . Sisters, Jeanette Stangle, Gertrude Natale, Barbara Heaton and Mary Esther Nicholas. Doris' family would like to personally thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF 2nd Floor for the wonderful care extended to their mother. Funeral services will be held on Monday July 10, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Interment will follow in Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday July 10, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA, 1007 State Hwy 5s, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to the Montgomery County Office for the Aging, 135 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
