Obituary of Barry T. Martin

After a 13 year battle with cancer Barry T. Martin (BTM) , 77 , of West Coxsackie , New York passed away peacefully on July 1, 2017 at St Peter's Hospital Albany , New York with his daughters at his side. Barry , was born on June 11, 1940 in Catskill , New York and was the second oldest of five boys. He is predeceased by his parents Ernest J. Ann (Brennan) Martin Sr. His wife Gilda (Pulice), his brothers Richard Martin, Roland Martin, and Kevin Martin. He is survived by his daughters Lisa (Theron) Gunderman, and Bridget (Walter) Stevenson, his grandson Kyle Stevenson, companion Shirley Harvey his brother Ernest J. (Debbie) Martin Jr. of Plano Texas, several brothers and sisters in laws, and many nieces and nephews. Also, Poppy will be missed by his favorite yellow lab "Hudson". As a 1957 graduate of Coxsackie-Athens he excelled in sports. He was captain of his basketball team, quarterback of the football squad, and all star catcher for C-A's infamous baseball team. He continued his education with a degree in Mechanical Design from Hudson Valley Community College. Shortly thereafter, he was employed for two years by Casazza Steele and then to Davis Acoustical for 43 years as a Project Manager. Barry designed and managed local projects as well, such as: the Mountain View Bus garage, the expansion of the Reed Street office of the National Bank of Coxsackie, and the relocation of the Town of Coxsackie offices to downtown. He enjoyed a full and productive life. Barry was a meticulous gardener and was proud of his well maintained lawn. As a long time member and former Vice President of the Catskill Golf Club he continued his competitive spirit as a low handicap golfer. Barry was a co-founder of the Coxsackie Challenge golf tournament which raised thousands of dollars over a thirteen year span for the Coxsackie Rescue Squad. He was an avid NY Yankee and NY Giant fan. Barry cherished his family. For over a decade he endured multiple cancer surgeries and treatments with never a complaint. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the St. Mary's R.C. Church, 80 Mansion Street, Coxsackie NY on Monday July 10, 2017 from 10am to 11am where then at 11 am a Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Scott VanDerveer Pastor. Interment in the family plot of the St. Mary's Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers donations made be made in Barry's memory to the American Cancer Society P.O.
