Obituary of Martha Colinas
Martha Colinas, RN, 83, of Lindsay Street, Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
She was born February 22, 1928 in Greenfield Center, NY and was the daughter of Charles and Carrie Dimmick Barss. She was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and the Samaritan Nursing School in Troy, where she received her certification as a licensed registered nurse.
Martha was first employed at the Old City Hospital in Amsterdam and later the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, where she worked in the Maternity Ward and retired from the Montgomery County Infirmary in Amsterdam where she worked for a number of years.
Martha was a member of the Horace J. Inman Center and received the Volunteer of the Year award for the year 2010. She was also a member of the Inman Center wood carving club. In retirement, woodcarving was her passion and she attended many shows. Martha was a good baker and enjoyed sewing. She was very devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
On September 15, 1950, she married Raymond Colinas. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son Marty Colinas Darice of the Town of Glen and a daughter Karen Gilston of Amsterdam; daughter-in-law Dr. Ann Walsh of Cambridge, NY; brother Robert Barss of Greenfield Center, NY; sister Naida Walko of Churchville, NY; three grandchildren Raymond Gilston of Las Vegas, NV, Gail Colinas of Gloversville and Jonathan Colinas of Amsterdam; one great grandson Michael; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Martha was predeceased by a son Robert Colinas who passed away in the year 2000.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Hagaman Cemetery , Hagaman, NY. There will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Martha's memory to the Horace J. Inman Senior Center, 53 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
