Obituary of Helen T. Petrosino
Mrs. Helen Petrosino of Tequesta, Florida, and formerly of Amsterdam, joined her late husband Louis in eternal life on Sunday, September 11, 2011. She was 84.
A lifelong area resident, she was born on February 28, 1927 in Amsterdam to the late Victoria and William Brewster. Helen attended local schools and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Bentley College in Boston.
Helen and along with her husband owned and operated Lou's Supermarket and Mr. Discount, working side by side for many years until their retirement. She was a member of St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic Church.
Known as Nana to all of her grandchildren, she was a first rate baker, seamstress and gourmet cook. Her happiest moments were spent teaching her grandchildren how to cook and bake. She became the first number they called when they needed help preparing her special dishes. This past summer, Helen spent her days on the Sacandaga Lake where she made pots of her wonderful pasta sauce and read stacks of romance novels. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her loving family includes her three children, William Petrosino and his wife Linda of Amsterdam, Nancy Lampkin and her husband Terry of Amsterdam, and Linda Alexander and her husband Richard of Virginia; her beloved grandchildren, Victoria, Tiffany, Louis and Maxine Petrosino, Kristen Alexander and Jessica Ellott; one great grandson, Tristen. She is also survived by her niece, Barbara Lewandowski and her husband Larry; one nephew, David Stuczko; and great nieces, Melissa Hill, Rebecca Scala and Shannon Cozzi.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 9:15a.m. at St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic Church, Cornell Street, Amsterdam with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday evening from 4 until 7p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary's Institute, 10 Kopernik Blvd., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
