Obituary of Marie A. Hallenbeck
Mrs. Marie A. Hallenbeck, age 82, of Gloversville, Tuesday evening, September 13, 2011 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.
She was born April 14, 1929 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Frank and Emily Trabulsi Ackel. She was a 1946 graduate of Gloversville High School and also a graduate of Albany Business School. She was first employed as a bookkeeper for several local glove manufacturers. She later joined the family business and became an owner of Ackel's Bar and Grill on South Main Street in Gloversville until it was sold in 1982. She also served as an election inspector for the City of Gloversville.
Marie was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, the 55 Plus Senior Citizens and the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary. She bowled with her husband in couples bowling leagues many years ago and enjoyed to travel. Home and family were very important to Marie. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She could often be found sitting on her porch visiting with friends and neighbors.
She was married on May 17, 1958 to Frederick G. Hallenbeck, Sr. who died September 12, 2005. Survivors include: three children, Frank F. Hallenbeck Sherry of Woodbury, CT; Frederick G. Hallenbeck Toni of Gloversville and Carol Schlect Donald of Rockport, TX; six grandchildren, Eric Hallenbeck, Christopher Hallenbeck, Holli Hallenbeck, John Hallenbeck, Guy Leo and Mark Williams. Several cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cathy Williams, and her brothers, Albert Ackel and Felix Ackel.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 15 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Prayer Service will take place 9:15 a.m. Friday, followed at 10:00 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville. Interment will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of your choice.
