Obituary of Victor Rimkus

Mr. Victor Rimkus, 81, of Surprise Arizona, passed away September 19, 2011 at the Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Arizona. Born on February 10, 1930 in Lithuania. The son of Antanas and Marcele Rimkus. His family left Lithuania and lived in Germany for a short time. With the help of relatives in the United States the family came to America in October of 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was employed at the American Locomotive Company in Schenectady. Wanting to improve his future, Victor enrolled in Hudson Valley Technical Institute for two years. He was hired by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady as an Engineering Assistant. In the fall of 1956, Victor enrolled in Union College in Schenectady. While at Union he worked part time at G.E. and graduated from Union College in 1961. That same year, he was transferred to Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. While at KAPL and G.E. his career was working in the nuclear reactor servicing the equipment. KAPL had a continuing engineering program. He received his Master?s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from RPI. Victor retiried from G.E. February 1992. In 2003 Vic and his wife moved to Arizona. Survivor?s include his wife Geraldine ?Gerry? Rimkus of Surprise, AZ. His daughter Tricia Kroepel Todd of San Diego, CA.; son, Richard Rimkus Amy of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Regina Hartvigas of Amsterdam; four cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Charlie and Abby Kroepel and Ethan Rimkus. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday October 8, 2011 at 11:00A.M. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, East Main St., Amsterdam, NY with Father John Medwid as celebrant. Entombment will be in the Mt. Calvary Chapel at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Hospital.
