Obituary of Walter Alexander Reid

Walter Alexander "Alec" Reid died on September 24, 2011 at his home on Canada Lake. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 25, 1926 and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and later enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, serving in occupied Japan. He attended Michigan State University, receiving a Master's Degree in Mathematics. It was there he met his first wife, Jean nee Root. They were married in 1952. She died in 1978. His professional career was spent at International Business Machine IBM. His second wife was Barbara McMartin, who also predeceased him. He spent his retirement traveling the world with her and supporting her extensive writing career centered on the Adirondacks, most notably the "Discover the Adirondacks" series. He hiked the trails and provided a myriad of editorial support services. Survivors include his brother, George Reid; his daughters Karen and Pauline Reid; as do his stepchildren James Long partner Anita Miller, Nancy Long husband Richard Loomis and Margaret Lawrence husband Robert. Three step granddaughters also survive him: Alicia Loomis, Casey Loomis, Elizabeth Loomis and step grandson Daniel Lawrence. In keeping with Alec's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
