Obituary of Dorothy K. Schanthal

Dorothy K. Schanthal, age 88, of Johnstown, NY passed away on Monday October 24, 2011 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. She was born in Herkimer, NY on May 18, 1923 the daughter of the late Earl and Rena Burt Kirby. On April 19, 1947, Dorothy married Charles F. Schanthal. They shared 64 years united in marriage. Dorothy enjoyed spending time at their camp on Lake Pleasant, knitting and crocheting, playing many varieties of card games and traveling to visit family members. In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by two sons: Timothy C. Schanthal Marianne, Michael F. Schanthal Jean, six grandchildren: Kristen Schanthal, Jacque Dzikowski, Donia Schanthal Zilles, Courtney Schanthal, Lauren Schanthal, Kacey Schanthal and three great grandchildren: Joshua Dzikowski, Jonathan Zilles and Landon Pitcher. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by and infant son, Kevin J. Schanthal as well as her 8 siblings: Marguerite Tanner, Stanley Kirby, George Kirby, Frances Myrus, Doris Peknik, Ruth Hammond, Helen Williams and James Kirby. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 28, 2011 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams Officiating. Friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady.
