Obituary of Ruth Totten McMullen

Ruth Totten McMullen, 91, of Fort Johnson Ave, Ft. Johnson, NY passed away early Friday morning October 28, 2011 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 31, 1920 a daughter of the late Thomas and Irene Gerling Totton. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a 1938 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Ruth was employed as a bookkeeper and office manager for the former Miller Motors, Hosner Motor Car Co. and the Montgomery County Trust Company. In 1994 she became the Secretary and receptionist at the United Presbyterian Church and the Meals for the Elderly. Mrs. McMullen as was a dispatcher for Dial-A-Ride in Amsterdam retiring in 1998. She was the past president of the Adirondack Arts and Crafts Guild in Broadalbin. Former Emblem Club #273 in Amsterdam, the Mayfield Yacht Club, the Amsterdam Garden Club and the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Mary Martha Circle. Ruth enjoyed boating with her husband on the Sacandaga Lake. They also went to Canada in the 1967 Expo with their boat. They chartered boats in the Virgin Islands and enjoyed water skiing, scuba diving, horse back riding, entertaining her family and friends, snowmobile riding and needle point. Ruth taught needle point and her needlepoint was exquisitely beautiful. She married Arthur McMullen on September 2, 1945. He passed away in November 1980. She was predeceased also by her infant daughter Dale Holly McMullen. Survivors include her cousins in Colorado and Hagaman. Her extended family of the heart includes, Edward Snyder who was her best friend since childhood and his late wife Anna Mae Snyder of Tribes Hill. Nieces and nephews of the heart, Linda L. Snyder, Carol A. Buddles, Mark Marybeth Snyder, Glenn Ann Snyder and their Families. Beloved friends, the late Alyce Joe Gill. Nieces and nephews of the heart, Joanne Vinny Ficca, Joseph Mirta Gill, Alice Gill, Donna Joseph Cuiffo and their families. Son of the heart, Robert Lorraine Fisher and family and daughter of the heart, Susan Walter and family. Funeral services are Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Rev. Mack McDonald presiding. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 1:00 to 2:00P.M. at the funeral home. Private interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
