Obituary of Rachel Sokolowski

Mrs. Rachel Sokolowski, current resident of the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam passed away at St. Mary's Hospital on October 29, 2011 with her loving family by her side. She was born August 16, 1918 in Hagaman, NY, the daughter of the late Stanislaus and Helen Pelecki Banewicz. Rachel was a life time resident of the area and attended local schools. She was employed by the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Company for many years. After her marriage to Anthony Sokolowski May 30, 1942, she raised her family and later returned to work at Amsterdam Glove until her retirement in 1990. She was also a member of the St. Casimir Seniors. Rachel loved to play Bingo and pinochle. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Bernard Benita Sokolowski of Clifton Park, daughter Sandra Scott McKay of Amsterdam; grandchildren Gregory Antonietta Sokolowski and Sara Sokolowski Shawn Nadeau and great grandchildren Ally and Nick. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Anthony on November 13, 1974. She is also predeceased by her siblings John and Andrew Banewicz, Bertha Pike, Helen Lipkin, Sadie English, Edith Szypula and Sophie Egan. Funeral Services will commence at 8 AM on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Betz Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial that will take place at 9:15 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam, Fr. Pascal Iannotti as Celebrant. Followed by interment at St. John's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 4pm until 7pm at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam NY 12010. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Auriesville Shrine Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home office.
