Obituary of Anthony J. Ambrosino
Anthony J Ambrosino, 99, of Gloversville passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, NY.
Born June 15, 1918 in Gloversville, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Nerlie Ambrosino.
As a staff sergeant, Anthony served as a medic in the 51st Signal Battalion during World War II, both stateside and overseas. He served under General George S Patton and was active in the Mediterranean and European theaters. In 2002, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery in WW II. He worked in the leather industry as a foreman for West Brook Glove Co. and the Perrella Glove Co. of Gloversville.
Mr. Ambrosino was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Gloversville. Anthony was a 60 year member of the local Disabled American Veterans association, having served as their Commander twice. He was one of the founding fathers of the local DAV post. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Anthony is survived by his wife of 75 years, Lillian Cole Ambrosino; his daughter Toni Bojarczuk and her husband, Nestor of Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County; his son Phillip Ambrosino and his wife, Kathi of Olympia, WA; his grandchildren, Dana Burckhard and her husband, Brian of Pleasant Valley and Eric Bojarczuk and his wife, Tina of Stormville, Dutchess County; his four great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Natalie Burckhard, Lilliana and Margaret Bojarczuk and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased in 1943 by his infant son Robert A. Ambrosino; his brother's Albert, John, Salvatore, Vincent "Jimmy", Joseph and Cosimo Ambrosino and his sisters Louise Yacobucci, Mary Mosher and Grace Strouse.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 17 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18th at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 So. Main Street, Gloversville with The Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. Anthony will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown following the mass on Tuesday.
