Joseph P. Fiorito, age 94, of Johnstown, died Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown.
He was born January 21, 1923 in Johnstown, the son of Alfio and Tindara Ricciardi Fiorito. A 1941 graduate of Johnstown High School, Joe served as a Corporal in the US Army Air Forces during World War II. Joe was an Airplane Electrical Mechanic, and his enlistment included being stationed in the Western Pacific Theatre of Operation. Joe's decorations included the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was employed by Independent Leather as a shipping supervisor for 34 years until his retirement.
Joe was married to Virginia M. Semione on February 9, 1952. Virginia passed away January 30, 1984. He is survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Virginia, Joe was predeceased by his parents and all six of his brothers and sisters: Peter J. Fiorito, Anthony P. Fiorito, Mary F. Mancini, Josephine F. Shores Camp, Barbara F. Intone and Ida F. Vincent. Joe was also predeceased by his companion of many years, Eleanor E. Russo.
Joe was an avid sports fan, especially of New York Yankees baseball and horse racing. He loved music and dancing with his wife Ginny. He had an infectious laugh, and little known by most, enjoyed drawing, especially that of people and horses.
For Christmas of 2012, a trip was arranged by his nephews Bruce Frank and Jim Shores and niece Rebecca Shores to fly to High Point, NC to visit his sisters Josephine and Mary. It was a wonderful reunion and a blessed memory.
Many thanks to Joe's kind neighbors at Trackside Apartments, especially to Beverly, Charlie and Camille. Also, many thanks to the staff at Pine View Commons, and to his roommate / second cousin Rosario Liccardi and his daughter Camille, and to the staff of the Wells Nursing Home. Additionally, thank you to his nephew / godson Bruce Frank for attending to Joe's needs and personal affairs in his later years. Lastly, many thanks to those family members who invited Joe into their homes for the holidays over the years.
