Obituary of Gary R. Dennie
Mr. Gary R. Dennie, Sr. 76, of Gloversville, NY entered eternal rest on Sunday July 23, 2017 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY with his loving family at his bedside. Born in Gloversville on April 11, 1941, he was the son of the late Russell C. Dennie and Betty E. Lehman.
He graduated from Johnstown High School and married Thelma J. Henderson on January 11, 1959. Gary was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1959 to 1963. He served on the USS Warrington during the Cuban Missile Crisis and later served on the USS Sperry.
He was the owner and operator of the Dennie Long Haul Trucking Co. retiring in 1996. Mr. Dennie also worked as a mechanic and service manager in various local Auto dealerships.
In his younger days he enjoyed racing his stock car at Fonda and Malta race tracks. Later he enjoyed his motorcycle, wood working, visiting and helping friends and having lunch with his daughter, Ginny, every Tuesday at the Northampton Diner. He was a lifelong NY Giants fan, Formula One racing fan and mystery book reader.
He loved his family and was always there to support and help whenever needed.
Gary is reunited now in Heaven with his parents and baby daughter Jennifer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Thelma J. Dennie of Gloversville. His dear children, Lori (Don) Smith of Gloversville, Ginny (Dave) Galpin of Northville, NY, Steve (Barbara) Dennie of Peru, NY, Mark "Oscar" (Kathy) Dennie of Gloversville, and Gary (Patricia) Dennie Jr.of Gloversville, NY. One brother, Jack Skakel of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Cherished Grandchildren, Tennille Burman, Jeremy Chrisman, Rebecca Chrisman, Donna Mullins, Katie Verseput, Hannah Thurston, Emma Dennie, Lanie Hanson and Coalan Newell and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 12 noon at the Walrath and Stewart Family Funeral Home, 51 Freemont St., Gloversville, NY with Rev. Gladys L. Cleland presiding. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, NY with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10 until 12 noon at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Gary's memory to the American Lung Association of NYS, 155 Washington Avenue, Suite 210, Albany, NY 12210 or to the Jackson Legacy Animal Rescue, PO Box 1077, Broadalbin, NY 12025.
