Obituary of Jerry Wemple
It all began July 29, 1937 when Jerry was born to Jack and Beverly (Reid) Wemple. He exited peacefully with love surrounding on August 7, 2017 after a short illness.
Jerry shared his life with his wife, Susan (Jennings) Wemple whom he married October 27, 1961. Jerry lettered in multiple sports during his time at Mayfield High School, from which he graduated in 1955. His younger brother Garth said he could pick up a rock at the family gas station and hit the farm house on the fly back in the day. Jerry was a hardworking man his entire life. He began his career on the family farm, and later the family gas station. Jerry served in the Navy from 1960 to 1964 and then went on to barbering school. From there, he worked in wholesale food delivery, the leather industry, in security, and finally in his most fulfilling job as a bus driver for the Mayfield School District. The students and their families became lifelong friends to him, and there was rarely a time he could be out in public and not hear "Mr. Wemple - my favorite bus driver!" He never forgot a name and always had a smile.
Jerry enjoyed poker with his friends... he was a winner… and sometimes a loser… but it didn't matter, he never passed up an opportunity to play. He could be found every morning sipping coffee with his friends and catching up on the latest news. Jerry loved to attend any sort of sporting event and could always be found with Sue on the sidelines at Mayfield's games, cheering on their home team.
In addition to his wife, Jerry leaves behind his two daughters, Erin and Lisa Wemple, his granddaughter, Alexis, his brother Garth and his wife Judy and their four children. He also leaves behind cousins with whom he remained close. Though listed last, his cat Boris and dog Anni, as well as assorted grand-animals were very much loved by him.
