Obituary of Frank A. Cervera
Mr. Frank A. Cervera received his invitation to take up residency in God's Kingdom on Saturday, August 19, 2017.
A lifelong resident, Frank was born on July 17, 1933 the son of the late Alfonso and Mary Jane DeStefano Cervera. He was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Frank received his elementary education form St. Casimir's School where the language of Lithuania was an integral part of the curriculum. He strived through his life to maintain his grasp of that language. He then went on to graduate from St. Mary's Institute, St. Francis Preparatory Scholl, Saint Mary's College and later Siena College.
Frank was employed with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany, serving as a clerk, telegrapher and photographer. He retired on December 31, 1988.
For over 55 years, Frank was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in various capacities including District Warden to District Deputy John J. Reilly and Auxiliary State Chairman for Programs. He was also State Chairman for the New Council Development Program, where he was responsible for the development of many new councils. He also served as Coordinator for the Charitable and Benevolent Programs for seven years. Frank was a Sir Knight of the Revered Smith 4th Degree Assembly in Broadalbin and was also a contributor to the Chalice Fund.
Frank also served as President of the Columbian Social Club for many years and was an avid Bocce player. Frank was also an accomplished bowler, and enjoyed the game of football, basketball, tennis and golf. He was also a skilled photographer who had a passion for photography and owned and operated Frank A. Cervera Photography.
Survivors include his wife, Winifred Gallagher Cervera; four step children, William Gallagher and his wife Laura of Schenectady, NY, David Gallagher of Amsterdam, NY John Gallagher Jr. of Amsterdam, NY and Marian LaFreniere and her husband Richard of Medway, MA; three step grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew and Jennifer. He is also survived by several cousins.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1p.m. at the Cemetery Chapel of St. Michael the Archangel, Cemetery Road, Amsterdam, NY. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 4 until 7p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
