Obituary of Richard J. Tryanna

Richard J. Tryanna of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital. During his last days Dick was visited often by his extended family and his many friends. He was born May 17, 1925 to Richard and Barbara Bux Tryanna in Amsterdam. He was a graduate of the former Wilbur Lynch High School and was employed by Mohasco Corporation his entire career where he worked in the Dye Department. His expertise was in textile dyeing and finishing, and fiber technology. Richard married Edna Argotsinger Tryanna in September of 1955. They resided in Amsterdam most of their married life, but moved to Dublin, Ga for the last five years of Richard's employment with Mohasco. Upon his retirement, they returned to Amsterdam. In retirement, Edna and Dick were active volunteers in the Auxiliary of Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and members of the Kennyetto Historical Society. Together, they enjoyed the orchestra, opera, local choral groups and plays. Always active, they bicycled; cross country skied and walked regularly. Cape Cod was a favorite vacation spot. They enjoyed chartered bus trips to various locales, a business trip to Puerto Rico, and a trip to Scotland and England in 1992. Richard was a conversationalist and story teller and had a great smile. Dick was the "family photographer," taking slides of family gatherings and special events. He, himself, was very photogenic. Dick enjoyed gardening and picking strawberries and blueberries, most of which he gave away to others. He was kind and interested in everyone's lives. He rarely complained, up to and including, the final hours of his life. He was a devoted and supportive member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Amsterdam since 1938. Over the years, he served in many capacities. He was a member of the church council, finance committee, property committee, pastor search committee and he sang in the choir. Dick attended Bible Study, managed the ice cream socials, volunteered at dinners and many other events. Dick's beloved wife, Edna, passed away on December 19, 2016 after 61 years of marriage. He is survived by his sister, Elsa Tryanna Keyser, to whom he was a kind and loyal brother and by his brother-in-law, Burlin Argotsinger (Lillian), and many cherished friends.
