Obituary of Myron M. Syzdek

Mr. Myron M. "Doc" Syzdek, 91, of Amsterdam, entered eternal rest on Wednesday August 30, 2017 at Albany Medical Center Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Amsterdam, NY a son of the late Joseph and Eva Bozek Syzdek. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended Amsterdam schools. Mr. Syzdek was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II, serving both in the states and European Theatre. Doc was employed for many years by the New York State Thruway Authority in the Highway Maintenance Division here in Amsterdam. He also worked at the former Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horse racing at the Saratoga flat track, and was a Amsterdam sports enthusiast and could be seen at most football, baseball and softball games in the area. He mostly enjoyed being with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. In his younger years Doc was very active playing, coaching and managing local baseball and softball teams. He was a parishioner of the former Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist and was a member of the VFW here in Amsterdam. Mr. Syzdek was predeceased by his wife Irene Potopowicz Syzdek whom he married on August 24, 1945. She passed away on April 7, 2013. He is survived by his children, Janice (Robert) Marcucio of Virginia Beach, Va and Stephen (Suzanne) Syzdek of Perth, and daughter in law, Karen Syzdek of Wynantskill, NY. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Sean Marcucio (Tanya Arrington) of Albany, Jamie (Neal) Wilson of Virginia Beach, Christopher (Melissa) Syzdek of Ballston Spa, NY, Brian Syzdek of Las Vegas, and Andrew and Matthew Syzdek of Perth. Doc was fortunate enough to be blessed with six great grandchildren, Giavonna, Arianna, Milania, Brayden, Mya and Taylor. Doc is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Doc was predeceased by his son, Michael and infant daughter Mary. He was also predeceased by his brother and sisters, Joseph, Mitch, Shadow, Teddy, Virg, Helen and Ceil. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 6, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. With Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday September 5, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
