Obituary of Charles F. Bonfey
Mr. Charles F. "Chuck" Bonfey, 88, of Gloversville, NY died peacefully on Friday, September 1, 2017 with his family by his side. Born on April 9, 1929 he was the son of the late Charles "Nelson" and Pauline Bonfey.
A lifelong area resident, Chuck attended local schools and served proudly as a Corporal with the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. During that time, he would write a letter every day to his sweetheart, Sally Walters, and would end the letter with "All my love." On December 7, 1952 he was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Eleanor "Sally" Walters Bonfey.
Chuck was employed as a foreman at Independent Leather Company for many years. He also helped on his in-laws family farm. Chuck enjoyed his family, watching Westerns on TV, loved to spend weekends at the camp in Piseco, NY and watch the world go by from his chair on the sun porch. He especially enjoyed spending time with his twin boy great grandsons, William and Andrew.
He was predeceased his brothers, Thomas Bonfey and his wife Sylvia and Robert Bonfey and his wife Jane.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sally; his children, Gail Cross and her husband Dwayne Cross Jr. of Johnstown, NY and Mark Bonfey and his husband Darren Darrah of Willsboro, NY; one granddaughter, Shelley Anne Waterman and her husband William of Lee Center, NY; two great grandsons, William and Andrew Waterman; his siblings, Donald Bonfey and his wife LeAnne of Mayfield, NY, Nancy Morey and her husband Simeon of Gloversville, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Graveside Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11a.m. at Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown, NY with military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Main Street Methodist Church, 316, N. Main Street, Gloversville, NY 12078 where Chuck was a member for 88 years. Following the service, everyone is invited to Chuck's beloved church, for fellowship and refreshments.
