Obituary of Robert A. DiCaprio
Robert A."Cap" DiCaprio, 88, of Amsterdam, NY was called home on September 2, 2017. He was the only son of Mary DiCaprio and was lovingly known to his family as "Sonny".
Cap was a lifelong resident and attended Amsterdam Schools. As a young boy he worked on his family farm known as the DiCaprio Flats in Cranesville. He was an avid fisherman in his younger years. He enjoyed watching the Amsterdam Softball Leagues play during the summer months. He was a member of the Country Cousins Senior Group. Cap was also a past member of the American Legion Post 701 and the Spanish American Club, where he played on their softball league. As a young man he enjoyed the sport of boxing. He later trained as an amateur boxer.
Mr. DiCaprio was a Navy Veteran serving in the US and the Philippines. He was employed by GE in Schenectady, NY for over 25 years retiring in 1989.
Mr. DiCaprio was predeceased by his wife Theresa "Terri" Anthony DiCaprio, whom he married on April 22, 1983. She passed on February 4, 2014.
Cap is survived by his daughter Roberta (Bob) Schlicht of Murrells Inlet, SC. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Rob (Ashley) Schlicht and Melissa (Jeff) Hinkleman all of Myrtle Beach, SC. Cap has three beautiful great grandchildren which he enjoyed spending time with during his visits to SC, Aiden and Abby Hinkleman and Della Schlicht.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger Family Funeral home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, 12010 from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:15 am at St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 with the Rev Jeffrey M. L'Arche, M.S. as celebrant. Burial will follow in the family plot at St Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.
