Obituary of Harold Barksdale
Harold Barksdale, 81, moved on to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning, September 4, 2017 after a long illness. He passed at home surrounded by his children.
He was born July 4, 1936 in Owings, South Carolina, the son of Robert G. Barksdale and Claree Fletcher Barksdale. He was one of ten siblings, one of which was his identical twin.
Harold is father to five children, Clarice Barksdale Robinson, Annette Barksdale, Faye Sullivan, Anthony Barksdale and Freddie Barksdale. His surviving siblings are James Barksdale, Zenobia Woodard, Hazel Chamberlain and Doris Sledge. He had nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961, stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he met his wife, the late Emily Jiminez Barksdale. He moved to Gloversville, NY in 1971. He joined the People's A.M.E. Zion Church where he was an active member up to the day of his passing. He was a member of the Men's Chorus from the beginning many years ago.
Harold was a self-employed and well-known house painter in the Gloversville area. He was also very active helping others in his community. He will be missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 6:00pm Friday, September 8th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville.
