Obituary of Frederic Bloomingdale

Mr. Frederic Bloomingdale, 98, formerly of Canajoharie, died peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Valley Health Services in Herkimer, NY. Born in Albany, NY and raised in Voorhesville. During WWII he served proudly with the United States Army. Following his career with the United States Government, Fred retired in 1972 and moved to Canajoharie, NY. Fred then went to work for New York State and commuted to Albany until he retired for the second time. He was a member of the Canajoharie Reformed Church where he served as Treasurer. Fred enjoyed making models, woodworking and refinishing furniture. He was also an accomplished artist and shared his talent with the community. Family was very important to Fred and together the family enjoyed rock collecting, and vacations together to the ocean. On September 15, 1955 he was united in marriage to Cora Bloomingdale. That union lasted over 50 years until her passing on February 12, 2006. He was also predeceased by his brother, Frank Bloomingdale. Survivors include three sons, David Barnes of Albany, New York, Adam Bloomingdale of Norwich, NY and Charles Bloomingdale of Fort Johnson, New York; three grandchildren, Amanda Bloomingdale, Sarah Denninger, both of North Carolina and David Bloomingdale of North Dakota; two great grandchildren, Alexia and Braydon. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 2 o'clock at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with the Rev. Matthew Draffen presiding. Burial will follow in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Canajoharie Reformed Church, 15-19 Front Street, Canajoharie, New York, 13317.
